Jaco & Corrina Loenen along with their two children have recently returned from Arnhem Land in Northern Australia, where they had been working with Pioneers.

Pioneers empowers gospel-driven Christians to go to the ends of the earth together in relentless pursuit of the unreached and to glorify God among unreached people groups by initiating church planting movements in partnership with local churches.

Now settling in Yorkshire Corrina is continuing to work with Pioneers translating the Bible and gospel resources into Yolŋu languages.

Since the beginning of 2026 they have been in a time of transition and we want to support and encourage them for what God has planned next.

Liz was a member of Chichester Baptist Church in the 1980s, did her nursing training at St. Richard’s Hospital, and has been part of our wider family at CBC ever since!

In 1991 the Lord called Liz to work with a Christian charity and she became the church community worker at an inner city, intercultural church in Harehills in Leeds, whose calling is to be ‘a house of prayer for all nations.’  Isaiah 56:7

Daily life includes living among and visiting families of other cultures and faith backgrounds, teaching English, providing pastoral support, offering prayer in the name of Jesus, and seeking to share the love of Jesus in words and actions. Liz co-ordinates an English class in her church, is involved in a prayer room ministry and is part of the leadership team there. Liz is also involved with some exciting and developing networks of Christians who are seeking to bless people of all the nations who now call Leeds home. She also has a role in encouraging churches and individual Christians in reaching out in love across cultures.

Ruth has been a church member at CBC for many years. She was in Senegal, West Africa for 13 years, teaching children of missionaries with WEC (Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ). 

Her calling as a missionary continues and she is now working as a volunteer with WEC in the UK, learning the job of administrator for short-term workers. Her work will involve lots of administration to help people discern God's call on their lives. She will also be involved in training that will practically prepare candidates for going overseas short-term. We continue to support Ruth in this missionary role. 

Ruth is also our Global Mission Champion, keeping in touch with our mission partners and keeping the profile of global mission central in the life of the church.

Feeding Futures works in partnership with school communities in rural Kenya. School meals are provided for all the primary school children. Parents and others in the community participate in observation and hands on learning about effective farming methods that are climate sensitive. This helps people to understand that change is possible. They can practice the techniques that are known to increase crop production and be empowered to improve their livelihood.

After working in Ngwataniro from 2010, Mukinyai from 2017, the current active partnership is with schools in the Subukia location.

Friends of Kagando is a Christian charity originally set up in 2003 by a group of medical professionals and teachers to support the hospital, schools and local rural community.

The Palliative care program, was started in 2007 by Ann Vallance, a CBC church member, and aims to provide holistic care to all those with a terminal illness,both  in the hospital but also by visiting these families in the community.

The charity supports Kagando Hospital  and  mobile hospice by raising funds, providing equipment and medicines and encouraging friends and colleagues working there by correspondence and visits.

Their vision is for the Hospital to be a beacon of compassion and hope for this very poor rural community and to show Jesus’ love, serving the people with high medical standards, integrity, and inclusiveness..

The Hospital motto is:  ‘We care , God Heals’.

Release International is a UK-based Christian ministry, supporting believers around the world who are persecuted for Christ and the gospel. They are currently active in around 30 countries where they prayerfully, pastorally and practically do all they can to love and serve persecuted Christians.
